Air Traffic Controllers, Air Traffic Control Technicians, Launch & Recovery, Crash Fire & Rescue, Refuelers, Weatherman, Operations, Engineers, MPs, Mess Specialists, Communicators, and Navy Corpsmen. We are the Rats. As a team we convert a barren wasteland into an all weather expeditionary airfield. We bring the Wing closer to the fight so the aircrews can rain death & destruction down upon the enemy for the grunts. An airfield for every need and occasion, from helicopter landing zones to international airports. Bravery is not a term usually associated with us, but the first time you see a Marine from crash crew rescue a pilot from a burning aircraft, a Marine from Launch & Recovery stare down the nose of an EA-6 for the trap, or any number of occurrences that put our lives in jeopardy for the sake of others, you will change your mind. We serve in silence with pride, except when we are at the Fireside Lounge.
